The Republic of Cuba is the only communist country in the Western Hemisphere.. Homer, Mr. Burns and Smithers visit Cuba when on the run. Mr. Burns tries to buy Cuba with his trillion dollar bill but Cuba's dictator, Fidel Castro, steals it and the trio are forced out of the country on a raft.

History

Cuba gained independence from Spain in 1898. In 1959 Fidel Castro overthrew dictator Fulgencio Batista and set up a communist regime. In 1961 the USA and the Soviet Union brought the world closer to nuclear war when an American spy plane took photos of the Soviets building nuclear missles in Cuba. After a 19-day stand off the Soviets agreed to back down, but only if the US promised not to invade Cuba (which they didn't).
