- Mr. Burns says "What in Samuel Hill", referring to the American businessman, lawyer, and railroad executive.
- Mr. Burns has a bust of Ayn Rand on his desk. The bust contains a hidden button.
- Mr. Burns opening up the "Burns Cave" and saying "To the Burns Cave!" is a parody of the 1960s Batman TV series. Burns then comes out the other end dressed like Robin.
- When Burns sees the demon trying to kill Smithers, he says "What in the name of Al Jolson", referring to the singer and actor.
