Cultural references
- The story's title and plotline (and the reality TV show that Homer stars in) are references to, and parodies of, the reality show Man v. Food.
- They could also be considered as referencing and parodying the survival show Man vs. Wild, as Homer is competing against animals.
Continuity
- When Krusty asked Bart what his name was he mentioned he:
- Was the "I Didn't Do It" boy ("Bart Gets Famous")
- Convinced him to run for congress ("Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington")
- Saved him from Sideshow Bob at least twice ("Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming" and "Day of the Jackanapes")
- Led a revolt at his summer camp ("Kamp Krusty")
- Received a huge settlement after eating a Metal Krusty-O ("'Round Springfield")
