- The advert campaign is a parody of the Fruity Pebbles advertising campaign which featured The Flintstones character Barney Rubble trying to steal Fred Flintstone's Fruity Pebbles.
- Barney's first disguise is of Steve Irwin.
- When Barney calls Homer "Fred" (referencing Fred Flintstone), Homer asks Barney how he'd like it if Homer started calling him "Otis", a reference to Otis Campbell from The Andy Griffith Show.
