Dodgeball is a sport commonly played in physical education classes. Many variants exist, but the general idea is that the teams try to eliminate each other's players from the game by hitting them with thrown dodgeballs. Players are also eliminated from the game if they throw a ball at an opposing player, and the opponent catches the ball on the fly.

History[edit]
A couple of dodgeball matches have been seen at Springfield Elementary School.
2nd grade[edit]
In a gym class, Ms. Barr had the second grade split into two teams to play dodgeball against each other. Lisa, however, was in a mood where she was too sad to play. In the end, the entire class pelted Lisa with dodgeballs, thus making the game more like Bombardment.[1]
4th grade vs. 5th grade[edit]
There was a dodgeball match between the fourth and fifth grades. Near the end of the match, only one fifth grader, Erik was left, against three 4th graders: Bart, Nelson and Lewis Clark. Bart had a brief fantasy where he got Erik out, followed by a huge celebration and Bart doing things such as being admitted to the Dodgeball Hall of Fame, presiding over the grand opening of Planet Dodgeball, and ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange by throwing a ball at the bell. Bart's fantasy culminated in flying into space like Superman and then throwing a massive asteroid dodgeball at three spaceships.
This didn't happen in reality. Erik put out Nelson and Lewis, and then Bart hit him with a dodgeball. However, the ball bounced off of Erik high into the air. As the ball began to fall back to earth, the crowd held its breath. Erik got under the ball and then caught it on the fly, eliminating Bart from the game and resulting in a victory for the 5th grade.[2]
Trivia[edit]
- Bombardment is similar to dodgeball, but a lot more one-sided.
