Trivia

  • Zii Dance Dance Revolution is a parody of Wii Dance Dance Revolution.
  • As the Simpsons are entering the arboretum, one of the sculpted bushes they pass is "Binky", a character from Matt Groening's comic "Life in Hell." The other pair of bushes are Kang and Kodos, The Simpsons' resident space aliens.
  • Gil is seen with white hair
  • When Marge found Maggie missing, she was bringing her a glass bottle (it shatters when she drops it).
  • Fat Tony says he wants to take out the Castellaneta family; Dan Castellaneta is the voice of not only Homer, but several other people on the show.
  • Lionel Hutz is visible in the large panning crowd shot at the Botanical Gardens.
  • The shirt Moe is wearing at Maggie's birthday party is the one Marge gave him
  • This episode was written by J. Stewart Burns who won an Emmy for the Futurama episode "Roswell That Ends Well".
  • This episode has a similar name to another Simpsons episode, Moe Letter Blues. This is another episode to have Moe as a large part. ("Eeny Teeny Maya, Moe")

Cultural references

  • Homer is freaked out by a Costington's ad in the newspaper that shows a pair of pants standing up by themselves, referencing the Dr. Suess short story "What Was I Scared Of?" which appeared in The Sneetches and Other Stories. In the story, the main character is frightened by a pair of pale green pants that stand up and walk around by themselves.
  • The Beverly Hillbillies: Parodied in The Beverly Hillbillies Down Under (the movie playing in Dr. Hibbert's minivan).
  • Alka-Seltzer: Referenced when Grampa (due to his rest home's changing his medication) runs amok in the streets, puts a bedpan on his head, and says, "Look at me! I'm Speedy Alka-Seltzer!" Speedy, one of the antacid's most popular ad characters, wears an Alka-Seltzer tablet as a hat, which means that Grampa really does resemble Speedy after he puts the bedpan on his head.
  • During the montage sequence where Moe spends time with Maggie (and Homer with a ham), the song playing is "You're My Best Friend" by Queen.

Goofs

  • When Maggie crawls out onto the street following Fat Tony and his mob, there is nothing betweeen the fence and the house. Later, Lisa finds bushes, spit and Maggie's tricycle in that same place.
  • Fat Tony and his mob come out of the restroom holding guns and isn't a table behind them. In a later scene, there is a few tables behind them.
