Character statuses are the status of each character, whether they are alive, dead, non-canon, fictional, a robot or possibly a combination of each.

What statuses are there?[edit]

The statuses for characters are as follows:

Status Template Example
Unknown {{Unknown}} Unknown
Alive {{Alive}} Alive
Deceased {{Deceased}} Deceased
Divine {{Divine}} Divine
Fictional {{Fictional}} Fictional
Fictional deceased {{Fictional deceased}} Fictional deceased
Possibly deceased {{Possibly deceased}} Possibly deceased
Possibly deceased fictional {{Possibly deceased fictional}} Possibly deceased fictional
Non-canon {{Non-canon}} Non-canon
Non-canon deceased {{Non-canon deceased}} Non-canon deceased
Non-canon fictional {{Non-canon fictional}} Non-canon fictional
Undead {{Undead}} Undead
Robot {{Robot}} Robot
Non-canon robot {{Non-canon robot}} Non-canon robot
Fictional robot {{Fictional robot}} Fictional robot
Robot deceased {{Robot deceased}} Robot deceased
Non-canon robot deceased {{Non-canon robot deceased}} Non-canon robot deceased

They are added to an infobox by simply typing the template name into the infobox's status parameter, no brackets {{}} needed.

Real-world characters and statuses[edit]

Many real-world characters have appeared in The Simpsons. Some real-world characters who have been in The Simpsons have died in real life. Their character statuses remain the same, unless otherwise stated in future episodes or other canon media.

Examples of when to use the deceased status on real world character articles:

  • Gerald Ford is dead in real life. However, there has been no specific in-universe reference to his having passed on, so the status on his character page is "Alive".
  • Ernest Borgnine is dead in real life. But the status of his character is uncertain (the ending of the episode in which his character appeared left it unclear), so the status on his character page is "Possibly deceased".
  • Ian McKellen is alive in real life. However, his character was shown suffering a potentially lethal series of mishaps and it was unclear whether he survived. Therefore, the status on his character page is "Possibly deceased".
  • Jerry Springer is dead in real life, but his character was killed in a non-canon episode. His character has no canon appearances, so the status on his character page is "Non-canon deceased".
  • Bob Hope is dead in real life, and his passing has been referred to on the show, so his character page shows his status as "Deceased".
  • Real people who have a dedication at the end of an episode of The Simpsons do not count as deceased unless their passing is mentioned in the actual episode. For example, Huell Howser is dead in real life and received a dedication at the end of "A Test Before Trying" but his character was not mentioned to be deceased in the episode.

After a real-world person dies, their character article will be semi-protected for a month to prevent people changing the character's status.
