Tanks for Nothing is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #54.

Plot[edit]

Grampa discovers from Lisa that he is owed over forty years worth of Veterans Tax Benefits. He is offered either the amount he is owed or an item of his choice from a government warehouse. He chooses a tank which he drove in the war. Grampa doesn't have a driving license so Homer offers to drive it with him but soon begins using it for his own personal use including driving to work.

Mr. Burns sees the tank parked at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and remembers how he used to battle with Aristotle Amadopolis using the armies of other countries until they eventually lost interest and signed a "no weapons" treaty. Over in Shelbyville, Amadopolis can see the tank parked at the Power Plant using a hidden camera and believes Mr. Burns has broken the treaty. Very shortly afterwards, he declares a nuclear war on Springfield with Mr. Burns choosing to retaliate.

Lisa brings Burns and Amadopolis together in an attempt to solve their differences but instead they order Smithers and Amadopolis' assistant Fredericks to fight each other. By the time they've ended the fight, the two power plant owners have lost interest and are instead auctioning off the nuclear weapons (although Smithers informs Burns that he won the fight).

With the war over, the government bans the use of nuclear power in Springfield for six months, therefore the workers at the Nuclear Power Plant are forced to run in hamster wheels to power the town.
