Don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page if I can help with anything! —Scott (talk) 20:43, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Dear User, I recently received a message from simpsonspedia saying, "please say your guys, that they shouldn't steal grabpics from simpsonspedia.net!". Now besides from the bad grammar and sentence structure, I guess this simpsonspedia is a German knock off of Wikisimpsons. I really don’t care where you get the pictures, but if you ever uploaded them from there just try to stay away from this website from now on. Basel17 20:56, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

Hi, my name is Brian and I'm a new bureaucrat here. I am a regular at the normal English Wikipedia and I had noticed that this site needed another active administrator and offered my services. To my surprise, not only did the Wikia people agree but they also made me a bureaucrat. So, I figured I'd introduce myself and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. -- Brian McClure 06:09, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Writers[edit]

Hi, if you're going to create pages for the writers, could you please use the real episode names rather than the production codes? -- Brian McClure 18:55, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

OkKingcjc 19:35, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Could you also try to avoid intentionally linking to redirects? Generally you should always try to link directly to the article. -- Brian McClure 21:19, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
oh thats from wikipedia Kingcjc 16:51, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Copying things from Wikipedia[edit]

I would prefer that people not copy things word for word from Wikipedia but for now we need to build the wiki as much as possible, and using things from Wikipedia as a building block is a good start. In the long run, I would like to see this wiki have a lot more original content, because we don't want to just look like Wikipedia. As such, I ask that in the future you try the following:

  1. Try and write an original lead. Wikipedia is done from an out of universe perspective, whereas this in-universe. So, Wikipedia's article about Flanders starts out "Ned Flanders is a fictional character in the American animated series The Simpsons". These articles do not need such introductions, so "Ned Flanders is the Simpsons religious next door neighbor is fine" is how it would start here. In other words, things like "The American animated series The Simpsons" and the like should not be in the leads.
  2. Please try and copy merged/redirected/old things as much as possible. A lot of episode pages here aren't even stubs, but a good way to expand them quickly is to use old versions from pre-March 2007, like this because they contain trivia and cultural references sections, which are of more use here than production sections. As well, it doesn't look like it was copied.
  3. If you copy things, remove all redlinks that will never have pages. Again, having a lot of redlinks screams "word for word Wikipedia copy" but if remove them, the articles look that much better.

So in the future, please try to remember those items. Thanks, Brian McClure 00:06, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Episode Appearances[edit]

Hey i don't mean to be a jerk bu could you please not edit the episode appearances sections? I'm doing a very thorough sweep of all the episodes and I don't want to get confused, thanks Uncle Tyrone 19:59, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Its a free wiki Kingcjc 20:00, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I know but there is so much other stuff that needs to be done in it Uncle Tyrone 20:02, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

but surely i can edit whatever i want, also im editing GAME AND COMIC APPEARANCES Kingcjc 21:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Adminship[edit]

I've noticed that you have been one of the most active users here as of late, so I was wondering if you were interested in being given administrator powers. I will be going away for 2 weeks starting on June 28, so somebody will have to check in on a daily basis and make sure the IPs aren't destroying the place. -- Brian McClure 20:38, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Sure that would be great. Also have fun on them two weeks Kingcjc 20:43, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Done. Use your powers wisely. -- Brian McClure 00:43, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
That's fine! I was just checking! By the way, can you fix up the redirects and page name of Pappa's Got a Brand New Badge? The correct title is definitly Papa's Got a Brand New Badge. I tried to move it but because the correct title is a redirect it won't work. Thanks. Gran2 20:02, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Response[edit]

Template:Imagelicensing/doc|this page explains everything. For covers, use {{tl|image fairuse cover}}, for everything else from comic books, use {{tl|image fairuse interior art}}. -- Brian McClure 22:04, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

thanks

Main Page Transition[edit]

Hi King!

I originally left this message for Brian McLure, but have yet to hear back from him. Seeing as you're a pretty active admin on here at the moment, the message goes on to you. :)

My name is Nathan and I'm a w:Wikia Helper Group|wikia helper with the w:c:Entertainment|entertainment team. We're going around helping wikis transition to the new style of main page that will be necessary to support the upcoming ads. I've created a draft of an idea for your main page in order to show the basic layout. Optimally, we'd like to get all main pages rolled over to the format as soon as possible, so feel free to use mine, or improve upon it. If you have any questions you can reach me via my talk page.

Thanks!

--Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 04:27, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Re:mai page[edit]

The reason I undid your changes is because it looked really off balance. The same stuff has been there for a while, but we don't have any featured content that deserves to be featured right now, so there's no need to change it constantly. --

Simpsons Comics #149[edit]

'#' is a special character meaning 'Section', so when you put "Simpsons Comics #149" into a link, it thinks you're making a link to page Simpsons Comics, section 149. It's common for all wikis, and most places get around it by using a title like 'Simpsons Comics issue 149' or 'Simpsons Comics number 149'.

Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 16:15, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Cool, hope you got it down now. :)
Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 16:15, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Uploads[edit]

That's no problem, you can ask any time. The uploads are a problem at the moment, but they're being worked on and should soon be fixed. I'd try off and on today, maybe wait till tomorrow and see if it's better. If you still can't do it after 24 hours or so, message me again, and I'll see if there's an update. :)

You're no bother, that's what helpers are for. ;)

Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 17:34, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Yea, it seems like it's getting fixed. I'm sure it won't be down long if it still is.
Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 18:14, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Maintenance[edit]

Since you're one of the only active admins, I would like to tell you that I have gone ahead with adding [[Category:Pages in need of a category]] to all mainspace pages that lack a category. This will allow for easy navigation of pages without a category, and even keep them out of Special:UncategorizedPages. Also, I will go ahead and do a simple categorization of the uncategorized templates with [[Category:Templates]]. I will also start at removing the red linked wanted pages, and try to structure the category system. Thanks, and if you have any questions/comments/ or complaints, feel free to message me. Joey - Talk Contribs 01:47, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

When you are reverting vandalism, don't you block the user as well? Joey - Talk Contribs 03:16, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I think we should make a vandalism system where each user name and ip gets a verbal warning then a ban. If they do a really bad edit to a page an ban with no warning, what do you guys think?Sgtcook 17:32, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Sure, they way I usually follow it on Wikia wikis is that if their edit can be considered in good faith or small; in a way possible to just be a mistake, then a message would be best, but if they replace text with vandalism or do page blanking, or even just not stopping after a message, then a nice ban would work. Yet, that is just how I have lived, and I'm good with it. How about you then Kingcjc? Joey - Talk Contribs 00:30, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I just use whatever I think works for the situation and/or how I feel kingcjc 19:58, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh and considering that we have an extremely small community, I think it is time we make this wiki more publicly known. Ideas? And what do you think? Joey - Talk Contribs 06:07, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

On the same note, I talked to Sgtcook and mentioned by interest in helping out this wiki with more specific things by becoming an administrator. I know you and him are pretty much this community now, and I wanted to change that so we could expand this community. I would be able to aid in dealing with vandals by reverting, blocking, deleting, and even protecting if need be. What do you think? It's just an idea to help this wiki grow. Joey - Talk Contribs 12:13, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, if both of you express interest in me becoming an admin, then I could get someone to make me an admin. Just say it, and I'll get Sgtcook to do the same. Joey - Talk Contribs 22:19, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Please vote for my adminship on my talk page, just add it to the right section. Thank you. Joey - Talk Contribs 00:03, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

New Skin[edit]

Hey, a few of us went out and started designing a new skin for this wiki, and we came to a result we would be happy with as this wiki's default. I just want to get some feedback about it before implementing it, so to test it out, just go to User:Kingcjc/monaco.css and create it with this line of code:
@import "/index.php?title=User:Joeyaa/monaco.css&usemsgcache=yes&action=raw&ctype=text/css&smaxage=18000";

Then, clear your cache (instructions are on that page) and leave me a note on what you think. Thanks. Joey - Talk Contribs 06:18, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Which color or background would you prefer to replace it with? It's simply based on the concept of Homer and others' mouth/jaw, but if you can find a background or choose another color I would be happy to replace it. Joey - Talk Contribs 06:31, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Did you find something you prefer better? Or should I search for something? I'm just eager to release this :P Joey - Talk Contribs 03:33, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
I'll do some playing around with colours tonight.--Sgtcook 17:14, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Promotion[edit]

Hi! I've been working with Wikia's marketing manager on a cool promotional idea, and I'd love to talk to the other admins here to get some feedback. Can you drop me a line so we can talk about it? Thanks! —Scott (talk) 20:50, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Maggie's age[edit]

Maggie is 2 not 1. Because in the episode and Maggie makes Three, Homer said Bart was Lisa's age when Maggie was born. That makes Bart 8 and he's 10 now so Maggie has to be 2 years old. I'm saying this because I can't edit that page because it's protected.--Murphyshane 16:31, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

Of course there's a reason![edit]

The reason why I mentioned the Sonic Wiki on this Wiki is because Launchballer was blocked from the Sonic Wiki so I had to find another with which to communicate with him. You got that? Sure, he isn't the only admin, but he's the only one who seems to respond to me. NNewt84 21:31, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

tututut[edit]

It's Phineas and Ferb, and if a DS can play a GBA games but not vice versa, why does it have to be the same on Wikia Entertainment? (That's right; I wrote about Amy Rose on the Phineas and Ferb Wiki, and it just stayed there.) NNewt84 03:35, January 8, 2010 (UTC)

Hello!

I would like to know if there are some straight articles about The Simpsons episodes, and their reflection about modern American culture? Detailed cultural refferences, habbits, behaviours, personality types which are reflected purely in these great series. I would be surely grateful for all kind of aid, or for any relating articles which can help me. Character pages[edit]

Hi, when laying out character pages, please use the copy of the infobox under Template:Character as this allows for less problems with infoboxes being 'broken' and is in the correct order. Also, please use a lot more categories. Thank you, ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk)☆ 21:08, March 8, 2010 (UTC)

Search for the Missing Treasures![edit]

Guess what! I found out about some treasures which may be the most valuable thing ever! These pictures will motivate you to search every town, city, state and country where you can possibly access for the lost treasures of Swordquest. The quest is not over; we, the people of Earth, will not rest till these treasures are found! Now, the hunt is afoot!

I want you to spread the word by forwarding this to every contact you have, and by telling people in person that they must not rest until they find what will be worth a fortune if one finds them.

Character Tabs[edit]

Hi! I noticed that you were working on the new tab system earlier, how is it going? Is it finished yet? I'd be happy to help you with it (or adding them to the articles) if you want? :)    Effluvium    talk    contributions    email   16:37, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

I've tried out the new tab system with the Sideshow Bob article (like you did with Bart). Couldn't we just add the template to the articles now or insert the copy you've been working on - I'm sure if we inserted the "Under Construction" template, more people would be willing to help out with the History and Achievement section?    Effluvium    talk    contributions    email   16:51, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
Hey. I've been watching your editing on the Sideshow Bob article and it looks nice with the new Tab system. Although, I'm not sure if the system is worth using. I mean, a few wikis use a tab system for the episodes (which makes great sense to me!) but no other uses it for the characters and I think the reason why is because it becomes to hard to maintain and we're going to have the same problem with the Appearance tab, no one will edit it! And I personally prefer the character pages to be like a biography (not like a database of information, like the episodes). Also, the character pages are supposed to be in-universe, which is going to be difficult with all these tabs. I think we should reconsider if this is worth all of the devotion your putting in, Kingcjc! Great work, mind you but maybe I should voice my concern to Solar and the others, so we can weigh up the pros and cons.    Effluvium    talk    contributions    email   17:27, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
Well, if you remember, I wasn't too sure about it from the beginning. I was against it. I still feel that it is not worth it and am glad that you guys are starting to see it too. Saves putting too much effort in I guess. So, revert them all then? ☆The Solar Dragon 17:38, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
I am against the idea of the character tab system too, now I've seen it in action. I'd prefer for the Template to be removed from the articles, as I no longer see any need. Sorry if this annoys you, Kingcjc, I know how much work you were putting into it.    Effluvium    talk    contributions    email   17:42, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Introducing Wikia's new look:[edit]

Greetings! As many of you have already seen, Wikia is undergoing some major changes to their site layout. As of Wednesday, October 6th, the change will affect both the appearance and how things are done on several wikis, and come October 20th these changes will effect all Wikia sites. These changes are mandatory as this is not simply a new skin option, it’s actually an upgraded version of the core Mediawiki platform itself. Check out "Experience the new Wikia" for a look at some wikis using the new look, FAQ and the Transition guide.

Transitioning to the New Look[edit]

We know you’ve put a lot of work into making your wikis look great in Monaco, so we’ve worked on our end to minimize the amount of effort needed for you to move to the new look. Still, there are some things you’ll want to do in order for your wiki to look its best in the new skin. We strongly encourage you to use our Transition Guide to make this process as smooth and seamless as possible.

Our new Special:ThemeDesigner|theme designer tool will be available to everyone during the first stage of sitewide roll-out on October 6th. This gives you time to experiment with different themes and chat with your community about what looks best before all visitors see your wiki in the new look.

We know that many of you are Wikia experts, and have a ton of experience to share with newer users, who may need more help with the transition. To tap all your knowledge, we will soon be setting up a page where users can request and provide help on the transition.

Timeline[edit]

The next step is to slowly but surely move all wikis over to the new skin. While there may be some tweaks, the projected schedule is below so that you know what to expect over the coming weeks.

October 6, 2010
  • The new look will continue to be default for logged-out users on the beta wikis
  • All logged in users will be able to “switch on” the new look for themselves on any wiki they visit.
  • All new wikis created will automatically use the new look.
  • Every wiki in the Wikia Lifestyle Hub will showcase the new look.
October 20, 2010
  • All users will see the new look on every wiki.
  • Logged in users will have the temporary option of viewing and editing wikis in Monaco.
November 3, 2010
  • The option to use Monaco will be removed.

Discontinued features[edit]

  • The widget dashboard and all widgets are to be discontinued as they were deemed to be underused.
  • "Report a Problem" links will also be discontinued with the new skin as they were not used as intended.
  • "Email a user" link is gone.
  • Page ratings are gone.

New features[edit]

  • New, customizable toolbar that is anchored at the bottom of the screen (Watch the demo video to see how it works.) You will need to learn to use this. (requires JavaScript)
  • New tool for customizing the colour scheme/theme, including default themes.

Other changes[edit]

  • The new look uses a fixed width layout, we are not permitted to change, which might influence the layout of articles quite a bit.
  • Wiki logo is replaced with "Wordmark", which admins can customize by adjusting the text & color, or by uploading an image in the theme designer.
  • Site notice is no longer on every page. It is now located in the Community Corner and users will receive a notification bubble each time it is updated.
  • The wiki navigation that is now on the left sidebar, is moving to the top of the screen. It will have 4 drop down menus, with 7 links each. This is substantially less than we currently have. (requires JavaScript)
  • "My Home" becomes "Wiki Activity" and contains a link to recent changes
  • There is a new sidebar area on the right that takes about 1/3 of each page's width, where the recent activity and other "modules" will sit. More "modules" are being developed for it, but there are currently no plans for user-developed modules.
  • Moved the most recent editor’s name from the bottom of the page to the top, added an avatar, and a new mini-history dropdown menu, which contains the link to the full history. (Supposed to make it more obvious to new users that anyone can edit a wiki.) (requires JavaScript)
  • Two of the categories are listed at top as well the full list at the bottom. Apparently the two chosen will be the categories containing the most pages. There is a blacklist to keep out typical maintenance categories, but it is not wiki specific (atm).
  • Edit and talk buttons will be used instead of written links.
  • The name of the user who uploaded a picture will be listed underneath the image caption on articles.
  • The "Terms of Use" are changed so that we will only have very limited options on what we may change on the new layout that is visible to all users.

Terms of Use[edit]

In keeping with the goals of the new look, our w:c:wikia:Terms_Of_Use|Terms of Use have been updated as well. Admins will no longer be able to completely remove core features for all users by using custom CSS or JavaScript. This is to protect the universal layout and functionality of every wiki on Wikia and ensure that users have access to all of the features available in the new design. Remember, these Help:Customization_policy |new terms only apply to the CSS of the wiki as a whole -- they don’t apply to your personal pages.

To give a few practical examples of what this means: It’s not permitted to remove the right sidebar modules, blogs, and image attribution or add a banner that shifts the entire content area down the page, or alter the fixed width. You can still personalize your wiki with different colors and themes, add large, standout images to the wiki background, create styled templates and tables within the content area. There are plenty of ways to be creative! While these terms will limit what you can do to the overall layout, creativity is still an essential part of Wikia.

If you need any help, or if you have any questions or issues - please feel free to contact me on my talk page and I'll get an answer back to you A.S.A.P.
