Throughout the years, The Simpsons DVD, and Blu-Ray, boxsets have followed several practises as they are released.

The couch gag[edit]

From The Complete First Season, to The Complete Fifth Season, DVD covers featured a couch gag.

Character spotlights and limited edition 'heads'[edit]

The Complete Sixth Season marked a change for the boxsets, the 'couch gag covers' were replaced by 'character spotlights' - a character would be emphazized and enhaced on the covers. This change would be embiggened as the DVDs were to be now released under a different cover - the whole box molded to a characters' head. This brought controversy, but it was always planned to release it under a 'normal' cover, keeping it the same size as the other boxsets. A customer would have to call --------, or enter the website --------- to change their boxset to a normal cover boxset.

Blu-Ray[edit]

The Complete Thirteenth Season boxset was released not only in DVD, but in Blu-Ray. Since then, Blu-Ray editions have been released with bonus episodes, however, this practise was changed in The Complete Sixteenth Season release, as a bonus episode ("Holidays of Future Passed") was included on the DVD release as well as another two on the Blu-Ray release.
