• Matt Groening's credit, "Lifting Us Up Where We Belong", is a reference to the song "Up Where We Belong", which was recorded for the 1982 drama film An Officer and a Gentleman.

Trivia

• Scratchy's being torn apart by the weight of the chandelier bears a visual resemblance to the effects of the "angel trap" in the horror film Saw III, but cannot be a reference to it as the story predates the film by six years.
