Formula for Disaster is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #71.
Plot[edit]
Bart gets a package from Herb Powell, which contains a chemistry set. Bart thinks it is a bad gift, but Milhouse tells him that he should try it. They decide to shuffle some things they find in the basement and after they mix in a leaky battery, they believe that the new invention is ready. Bart thinks Milhouse should taste the invention, but he refuses because it smells funny, so Bart tries to taste it but is stopped at the last second by Marge. After Marge leaves to go to the Kwik-E-Mart, Bart tells Milhouse that he has the feeling that they can use the invention, which looks like a liquid, to pull some pranks and they go out to find a suitable place to do their experiment. The bottle that Bart has put the liquid in starts to leak, and when he starts riding his skateboard, he loses his balance and starts to slide down the street before he crashes into a dumpster. Bart does not understand what has happened, but Milhouse sees that the wheels of his skateboard have soaked up the liquid, and he tells Bart that he believes that it makes things go faster. They test the liquid on Milhouse's shoes, but he just slips when he starts walking, and they realize that the liquid makes things slippery. They start to use the liquid on subjects in Springfield, and expose their friends to pranks with the liquid.
After they have fun with the liquid, Bart says that he believes that someone can pay for the liquid. Milhouse tells him that they did not write down what they put into it, but Bart knows someone who can find out what is in the liquid. Bart calls Professor Frink, who is interested in the liquid, and promises that he can pay them if he gets access to their liquid. Their conversation is overheard by the bullies, who decide to take the liquid so they can sell it to Frink and become rich. Bart and Milhouse discover that the bullies are after them and spray the liquid on their vehicle so they can run away from the bullies. When the bullies are out of sight, Bart and Milhouse jump off their vehicles and let the vehicle continue to drive by itself, then spray the lawn with the liquid just before the bullies pass by, so the bullies start to slide and they can't stop their bikes. Bart and Milhouse, glad they got rid of the bullies, go to visit Frink. But he cannot pay them because Bart has no liquid left. Milhouse tells him that he told him they should have written it down. Frink tells them that perhaps it was good anyway that the liquid did not fall into the wrong hands and hurt someone. Meanwhile, the bullies crash outside Frink's home.
