David Crosby presents The Be Sharps with their Grammy Award

Outstanding Soul, Spoken Word, or Barbershop Album of the Year is a Grammy Award category. The only known winner is The Be Sharps for their debut album, Meet The Be Sharps.

History

1987

The nominees for the 1987 award.

The award was given out during the 29th Grammy Awards in 1987. It was presented by David Crosby.[1]

Following the Be Sharps' win, Homer kept the award, although he tried to give it away. It has since been seen or mentioned in other episodes.[2][3]

Behind the Laughter

  • Although there is no real Grammy category for Barbershop music, there is a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album. There were previously several categories specifically for Soul music. Today, soul music is generally considered part of the "Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music" categories.
  • According to Lisa, The Be Sharps beat Dexys Midnight Runners, which would indicate that they were nominated for this award.
