Cultural references

  • The story is a parody of "Street Ball", an ad for a line of Spalding basketballs. The ad featured NBA stars Julius Erving and Rick Barry and appeared in many comic books from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s.
  • Lawn darts are a real-life lawn game where the gameplay is similar to Horseshoes. The darts were banned from sale in the USA in 1988 due to safety concerns.
