- The story is a parody of an ad for a line of Spalding basketballs. The ad featured NBA stars Julius Erving and Rick Barry and appeared in comic books in 1977.
- Lawn darts are a real-life lawn game where the gameplay is similar to Horseshoes. The darts were banned from sale in the USA in 1988 due to safety concerns.
