Hey guys. I was wondering what you guys thought of going ahead with the idea of creating a forum for our wiki. By 'forum', I mean an actual message board similar to the old forum but hosted on the new server. As I see it, creating a forum has several unique benefits:

  • It allows us to discuss wiki issues and proposals in depth.
  • Polls can easily be added to topics, allowing for quick and secure voting.
  • Private messages can be used, something impossible on a wiki.
  • It allows us to discuss both the Simpsons series as well as off-topic subjects in a casual environment.
  • Wiki staff members can have access to private forums for discussing high-level issues as well as potential staff candidates.
  • Issues with the server can be reported to me and kept track of much easier than just through my talk page.

The only disadvantage I can think of would be that it's impossible to link forum accounts with accounts on the wiki, but I don't really think that's a very serious issue. It would also allow us to remove the broken Special:WikiForum extension. Anyway, let me know what you think! :) --Jake 13:32, 30 August 2011 (EDT)

  2. I think Jake's idea is really good for a forum. We don't really use that other one now. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 13:41, 30 August 2011 (EDT)
  3. Our forum is dead. A proper forum here would be good. Although we can PM users on our wiki via our social tools. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 13:49, 30 August 2011 (EDT)

Even though I'm not wiki staff, will I still be able to have my position on the old forum on the new one if it's created? Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 13:44, 30 August 2011 (EDT)

What was your old position? We'd have the same type of user ranking here, going users -> Rollbacks -> Admins -> Bureaucrats -> Me The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 13:51, 30 August 2011 (EDT)
Apparently, I was a rollback on the old forums... Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 15:27, 30 August 2011 (EDT)
  • Find it funny how so many people have voted for this but not our new template design. (This is an advertisement, please vote :P) The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 04:06, 31 August 2011 (EDT)
  • So would it be safe to move ahead with this proposal? I'm not sure how many votes are needed before an idea is approved/rejected. --Jake 11:56, 1 September 2011 (EDT)
    • The majority is in support so yes. The Solar Dragon 12:56, 1 September 2011 (EDT)
      • Ok, I've done the majority of the setup and the forum can now be accessed here. In order to reduce the number of user groups and permission sets we have to manage, I've set up only two user groups for wiki staff members. (In addition to forum admins and moderators.) Please see this topic for more information. Solar Dragon -> Please send me a PM after you've registered. --Jake 17:15, 1 September 2011 (EDT)
