Wiki discussion is the place where major discussions and decisions can be made. Larger discussions will have their own pages but smaller discussions will go here.

Foreign broadcasters

We seem to have a whole load of pages about foreign TV stations that broadcast the show. I don't believe we need all of these. The major English ones we should keep, in the scope of the wiki, but the foreign ones should go unless there's a special reason an article should stay. Thoughts? The Solar Dragon 12:22, May 21, 2016 (EDT)

There is no serious disadvantage of these pages. If some editors have energy to maintain them let they do.
However if not – and I suspect this is the case – a simple list is enough. Practically content of Template:Broadcasters --2F13 (talk) 01:57, May 29, 2016 (EDT)
A list or a table is enough, I think T-Mac (talk) 15:49, August 1, 2016 (EDT)
The stubbier pages could probably be merged into a table. --Nick97 (talk ~ contribs) 22:41, August 16, 2016 (EDT)
The problem is, most of these pages are stubs. One or two lines at most. We might as well just make a Foreign broadcasters page and list them there by country. That makes the most sense to me. The Solar Dragon 14:15, August 17, 2016 (EDT)
I think a table (on a "Foreign broadcasters" page, of course) would be neater, personally. You could just have slots in it for the channel name, country, years active and maybe whether it broadcasts new episodes or only reruns. That would cover all the important information, I think. --Nick97 (talk ~ contribs) 09:14, August 18, 2016 (EDT)

Ask a question

Does page https://answers.simpsonswiki.com/ask work? Weeks ago I posted a question but I don't see it at all. --2F13 (talk) 10:56, June 19, 2016 (EDT)

Yes, it works. Due to a large amount of spam, questions need to be approved. I haven't done so in about a week (your question was posted a week ago). I have approved them now. The Solar Dragon 11:55, June 19, 2016 (EDT)
Just to add, once you've had at least one question approved (as you now have), the system will allow you to post new questions immediately without the need for staff approval. --Jake 15:56, June 19, 2016 (EDT)
Fine, thanks. :-) --2F13 (talk) 01:44, June 21, 2016 (EDT)

Category membership

I think if an image is member of any subcategory of Category:Images then it should not be duplicated in Category:Images itself too. Especially I mean 30413 members of Category:Images_by_license_(fair_use) also appear in endless list of 31367 simple "Images". --2F13 (talk) 01:49, June 23, 2016 (EDT)

I feel like it's best to have all images in once place so Category:Images should have them all in. Having images in subcategories alone will usually result in some being missed if any bot tasks need to be performed on them. This is the same reason we have all characters in one category, all locations, episodes etc. The Solar Dragon 05:49, June 23, 2016 (EDT)

SNPP

Tons of information can be found on late SNPP. My favourite is the "Didja notice …" section in the episode capsules. :-) I don't say we should copy everything from SNPP into this wiki but I suggest to place links pointing to this good old site serving for more than a decade. --2F13 (talk) 02:39, July 10, 2016 (EDT)

Whenever we use content from SNPP, we always leave a link to the source in the References section of that article. We also have a dedicated article on The Simpsons Archive itself. --Jake 16:32, July 10, 2016 (EDT)

Should costumes count as an appearance?

This has been bugging me for a while. Should someone wearing a costume of a character count as the character appearing? This is often seen when a character cosplays at an event or Halloween or something. But should this count as an actual appearance of the character? The Solar Dragon 14:41, September 21, 2016 (EDT)

For me it's an apperance, I use (costume by character) with the appearance./AleWi (talk) 09:41, September 22, 2016 (EDT)
I think they should count. Especially with fictional characters, since they don't technically exist. They're just the idea of a character, their personality and appearance, being represented in some physical form. I mean, what's the difference between Lenny cosplaying as Fox Mulder and David Duchovny cosplaying as Fox Mulder? Neither of them are really Fox Mulder, they're only pretending to be him. They're pretending to be the physical representation of his character. I see it as sort of like different actors playing the same role. The actor may be different, but the character is the same.
I hope that makes sense. :P In any case, I think simply adding the distinguishing (as cosplay) or whatever on the character's "Appearances" section is good enough, since I do believe that it is important to distinguish between the character actually appearing and the character appearing as a costume or piece of merchandise or whatever. --Nick97 (talk ~ contribs) 15:50, September 29, 2016 (EDT)
