Book Information
Genre: Nonfiction
First appearance: "The Monkey Suit"

Life in these 38 States is a ridiculously out-of-date book.

History

Seymour Skinner has said at the books in the Springfield Elementary School are almost the same ages like the Bible, a reference to the book Life in these 38 States which they had in the school.

Behind the Laughter

It is a parody of readers' submission section of Reader's Digest called Life in These United States which later gets published as it own book.

The United States had 38 states for 13 years, 3 months and 1 day between the admission of Colorado on August 1, 1876 until November 2, 1889 with admission of the Dakota Territory which was split upon admission into North Dakota and South Dakota.
