- Mr. Burns tells a hippe to "to shine on your crazy diamond" referring to the song by Pink Floyd of the same name.
Trivia
- This is one of the few episodes were Mr Burns becomes poor.
- This is the only episode where all of Springfield starts to recycle.
Continuity
- Mr. Burns goes to The Simpsons' house, asking Homer for his daughter. When Homer asks if he means Maggie, Mr. Burns can be heard mumbling "The baby who shot me" while Maggie makes a pistol gesture. This refers back to Who Shot Mr. Burns? (part two).
- In Bart Carny, a can of Lil' Lisa Slurry can be seen in the water.
