Catchphrase Information
Character: Nelson Muntz
Reason for saying: Laughing at another character on the show
First heard: Bart the General

Ha Ha! is Nelson's catchphrase. He usually use it when something bad happens to another character. Sometimes, after he says this catchphrase, he says why he is laughing at the person. Sometimes he says it so much, his voice gets really tired and croaky[1].

Nelson says his phrase with the emphasis on the first "Ha," so it sounds like "HA-ha!"

Variations

Reversed

When Nelson laughs at Homer while he (Homer) is having a chili-pepper-induced hallucination, Homer hears the laugh with the emphasis reversed: "Ha-HA!""[2]

Four "Ha"s

When Nelson appears as a young Beethoven, his laugh has four "Ha"s so that it sounds like the opening notes of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony: "Ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaa!"

Canadian

The Canadian Nelson says "Hoo Hoo!"[3]

Used by Other Characters

  • Mrs. Muntz has been known to say it[1].
  • Nelson laughs at a tall man driving a Volkswagen, who turns the tables on him.
