Cultural references

  • Star Trek: Comic Book Guy insists he be called Number One after Star Trek actor Jonathan Frakes.
  • Batman: Comic Book Guy mentions a scene from the Batman TV Show.
  • Spiderman: Comic Book Guy says he has behaved as shamefully as Doctor Octopus.
  • Green Arrow: Comic Book Guy tells Bart to set up his booth according to his floor plan which he "painstakingly modeled after Green Arrow's arrow cave."
  • After Bart carries in all of Comic Book Guy's stuff, a man dressed in Arabian clothing can be seen setting up his own booth. On the table he has a two small Pyramids.
  • When the convention opens, a character looking much like Superman can be seen hanging from the ceiling.
  • Futurama: As the nerds rush into the convention, storming Comic Book Guy's booth, one kid asks if Bart will buy a Futurama comic his cat peed on.
    • Another kid asks if this is the line to see Adam West.
    • One kid asks if Bart can sketch Supergirl in a bikini.
  • When Bart asks Comic Book Guy where he's been, he replies that he was engrossed in a manga version of Gasoline Alley. He then remarks that it "'Twould have been a classic, but for the hideous inking of Mark Waid.
  • One of the booths at the convention is run by a Darth Vader like character.
  • As everyone rips through Comic Book Guy's booth, taking all his things, he says "For the love of Iron Man."

Goofs

  • The layout of Comic Book Guy's booth and the various items hanging on the walls, changes frequently throughout the story.
  • In one panel Professor Frink's hair is colored yellow instead of brown.
