The Itchy & Scratchy Show Episode Information
|
An untitled episode of The Itchy & Scratchy Show was seen in "Whacking Day". The episode was directed by guest director Oliver Stone.
Plot
A handcuffed Scratchy is being led through a crowd by two plainclothed law enforcement officials. Itchy leaps out from the crowd, draws a gun and shoots Scratchy. The screen freezes just as the bullet hits Scratchy, and we hear someone say "He’s got a gun!"
Behind the laughter
- The episode parodies the 1991 film JFK, which was directed by Oliver Stone.
- The episode is also a re-enactment of the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald by Jack Ruby two days after Oswald assassinated U.S. President John F. Kennedy. The episode casts Scratchy as Oswald and Itchy as Ruby.
- In real life, a photo of the moment when Ruby's bullet hit Oswald (the point at which the screen freezes in the cartoon) became a Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph.
