Springfield Baby-Proofing

Company Information

Springfield Baby-Proofing is a company located in Springfield. It provides the service of baby-proofing people's houses.

History

Springfield Baby-Proofing employs salespeople who go around visiting homes where the people have a baby in the house. The company relies on shock value, research and role-playing to make sales. When the Sales Lady came in 742 Evergreen Terrace, she called for Marge and Homer and said "Your baby is dead!" a couple of times.

While making her presentation, she crawled on the kitchen floor like a baby to demonstrate how easily a baby could be exposed to household hazards—"to fall victim to the thousands of deathtraps lurking in the average American home", as she phrased it earlier in her pitch. She grabbed a bottle from under the sink and tried to open it. However, it did not open easily. Finally, after lots of banging the bottle on the floor and running the hot water tap over the bottlecap, she opened it. She then pointed out how quickly Maggie could have opened the bottle, which turned out to be a bottle of baby formula. After all that work, the Sales Lady failed to make a sale to Marge and Homer. Marge wasn't impressed with the presentation, and Homer bodily kicked the Sales Lady out of the house when he saw how high her estimate was.

Springfield Baby-Proofing apparently pays its salespeople on a commission basis, as the Sales Lady exclaimed "Wow! I'm rich!" when she finished adding up her estimate for Marge and Homer. Specific baby-proofing items sold by the company include window bars, toilet latches, dingo alarms and grapefruit squirt shields.
