Moving pages is a crucial part of a wiki, including Wikisimpsons. If a page is misnamed or the name of the topic changes over time, the page will need to be moved to match the new name. This is the procedure on how to do so.

Procedure

  1. Add the {{Moveto|<New name of the page>}} template to the top of the article. This will bring visiting users to attention about the issue and might bring them to put their input in.
  2. Explain on the talk page of the same page why you think it will be moved. This will help sway the decision on whether or not to move the page.
  3. If the discussion goes towards moving the page, wait for a user who has the ability to move pages (most logged in users will have this ability) and allow them to move the page properly.
  4. Mark any unnecessary pages for speedy deletion using {{speedy delete}}. This, in particular, should be the talk page redirect and, in the case of misspelled names, such as missing a letter or missing a space, mark the original page, now a redirect, for speedy deletion too.
  5. Check Special:WhatLinksHere to see where the original page linked to and correct the links to the new page.

How not to move a page

  • When moving a page, do not just copy and paste the information over to another page. This will remove all the page history of the page and make it look like you created the entire page.
  • Do not move pages for main characters or locations without discussion. Many of these pages have been moved multiple times due to users wanting to name them something different. This should be brought up on the talk page before they are moved.
