[[Angelica Button|Angelica]] faces her toughest ordeal yet as she is selected by the Chalice of Consequence to partake in the dangerous Trivenificias Tournemant (Three Witches competition) to gain fortune. The only problem is that she didn't enter it. Guided by [[Rick Weasle|Rick]] and [[Sam Puckle|Sam]] and helped by her godfather Baron Morteth she struggles through the three challenges, battling dragons, fighting giant squids in a bottomless lake and working her way through a maze of halls of doors with endless staircases going everywhere and nowhere. She and Carlos Degger claim the Trivenificisas Trophy which magically transports them to the Saurau Mines of Mount Purgatorium. Angelica instantly recognises it and tells Carlos to go but Gretterpek, Lord Evilton's servant, arrives and traps Carlos in the Suffoclock of Sandy Doom. He drowns in the sand and Angelica's tortoiseshell beret is placed in a cauldron along with Gretterpek's arm. Lord Evilton returns from the dead, triumphant and gloats on Carlos' death, tossing the body next to the Trohpy. Angelica duels him then races over and takes Carlos back to Springwart's. Horrified at his death, the school places his body in the lake of Equalia. Returning to Springwart's castle, Angelica contemplates what happened with Sam and Rick. Sam comforts him, saying how Carlos will live on in their hearts.

Plot
