Use: Tourist attraction
First appearance: "Flaming Moe's"

The Dead Sea is a salt lake located on the border between Israel and Jordan. It is a popular tourist attraction.

History

Patty and Selma once visited the Dead Sea while on vacation. When they returned, they showed a slide show of their vacation. When they got to the photo of their Dead Sea visit, Patty commented, "They say everyone can float in the Dead Sea, but Selma sank right to the bottom."[1]

While with a tourist group visiting Israel, Homer got lost in the desert and became extremely thirsty and dehydrated. He emerged from the desert at the Dead Sea and drank some of the water in an attempt to relieve his thirst. However, because the water was so salty, he became even more dehydrated and experienced a hallucination where the VeggieTales characters appeared to him and told him he was the new Messiah.[2]

Krusty imagined himself being in the Jewish Heaven with his father. They both sang while floating in the Dead Sea. Moses also appeared in Krusty's dream and parted the Dead Sea in two, as he did with the Red Sea in the Book of Exodus.[3]

Behind the Laughter

One of the Dead Sea's best-known features is its high degree of salinity, which makes the lake very easy to float in—referenced when Patty says that Selma sank in it.
