How do we know that Rachel was Krusty's mother?

I'm pretty sure there were at least two episodes where Krusty's mother was stated to still be alive. From her tombstone, all that we know is that she was a mother. True, it is likely that she was Krusty's mother and that this is simply an inconsistency, but it's also possible that she was his grandmother, aunt, or sister. Has a producer ever said anything about her?
