Rise of the Szyslaks is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #151.

Plot[edit]

Homer becomes furious when Rainer Wolfcastle is forced to leave Celebrity Squaredancing and goes to Moe's Tavern. Moe is about to be visited by his brother, Stringfellow Szyslak, but he does not want to meet him, so he lets Homer act as the bar owner while he hides. Stringfellow tells Homer about their rich childhood, and he came to get Moe to stop his self-exile and rejoin the family he left. When Stringfellow leaves Moe's Tavern, Moe tells Homer about how he left the family when his 14th prizefighter ended badly - he got a new face and began to study at Swigmore University. Homer tells to him that Stringfellow mentioned that Daphne is with him and when he asks who she is Moe asks him to leave the bar.

Moe is looking at old photos from his childhood and remembers how he loved a girl named Daphne. Homer is at home and tells the story to Marge, who feels sorry for Moe but wants to sleep so Homer decides to reunite the family himself. He follows Stringfellow and discovers that he is sleeping in a RV, and eavesdrops on the family's conversation, discovering that they are destitute and only plan to take Moe for his money, before taking money off another rich person. Homer is caught by Daphne and they tie him up while they locate Moe. Daphne comes to Moe's Tavern, where she encounters Moe, and they begin hugging each other only to be disturbed by Gandamac, Portia and Stringfellow. Daphne asks Moe to listen to what they want. Homer realizes what if they take care of Moe the bar will close, and he manages to escape. Homer visits Moe Tavern only to find he is an hour too late - Moe has let Stringfellow put his cash into llama futures. Homer tells him that his family is poor and Daphne loves his brother, not him, helping Moe understand what they have done to him.

Homer realizes that Mr. Burns is the man with a lot of money and they go to his mansion, where he is writing on the contract for Moe's Tavern, by Moe's family. They get there in time and Moe beats down his family, making Daphne interested in him again, but he declines her love. Mr. Burns tells him that he still would sign the contract, but he changes his mind when Moe says that it was the Springfield headquarters of the McGovern campaign in '72. Moe's family leave Springfield and Homer is at the bar again, but Moe starts to chase him when it turns out that llama futures have become very valuable.
