Love Potion Numbs Her Mind is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #165.

Plot[edit]

Marge paints a picture of Homer's underwear when Homer yells for help. Marge, busy with her work, eventually goes to Homer, but she is too late. Homer has completed the elusive fifth position in the hammock and wanted her to take a picture for Hammock World Monthly. Marge tells Homer she was busy painting, and the two start to argue. Marge throws her painting in the garbage, but Bart and Lisa pick it up. A businessman comes along and buys the painting from them for $500. Lisa hesitates to sell it, but Bart persuades her. Lisa wants to use the money to do something nice for Marge.

While watching TV, Bart and Lisa see a commercial for a romantic hotel offering artistic self-expression classes for women and a well-stocked sports bar for men. They book a weekend at the hotel for Marge and Homer, tricking them into thinking they won the visit, and arrange for Grampa to babysit.

At the hotel, Marge enrolls in an artistic self-expression class, earning compliments from the teacher, Nick Aphrodite. However, when Homer interrupts to talk about Hammock World Monthly, Marge becomes irritated and leaves. Feeling guilty, Homer meets Professor Frink, who sells him a love potion called Romancetrex-9, designed to create feelings of understanding and respect. Homer slips the potion into Marge's tea, but after seeing Donut Man handing out free donuts, he leaves her and accidentally causes her to fall down the stairs.

Nick rescues Marge, and she falls in love with him. When Homer discovers Marge is missing, he realizes she fell for the first person she saw after drinking the potion. Tracking her down, he finds her packing her belongings, as Nick has arranged a better place for her. Homer asks if Marge saw Nick after drinking the tea, and she confirms Nick rescued her after the fall. Returning home, Homer tells his kids what happened, and Grampa advises him to win Marge back quickly.

Meanwhile, Marge paints Nick in his room. Nick asks her to stay and move in with him, but she hesitates. Homer arrives and reveals the truth about the love potion. He gives Marge another dose and asks her to drink it while viewing the family photo album to decide whether to return home or stay with Nick. Afterward, Homer leaves.

Nick shows Marge the painting he bought from Bart and Lisa and tells her she can become as talented as the painter if she stays. Marge reveals it is her painting. Nick, frustrated, throws the photo album out the window and urges Marge to drink the potion. She refuses and looks out the window, where she sees Homer with some rats. Nick forces Marge to drink the potion. Afterward, she takes a picture of Homer in the hammock and tells him that drinking the potion again made her realize all she wanted was to see her husband. Nick notices the painting Marge made—a picture of Homer's underwear.

Lisa asks what will happen to Marge's painting career and her single-woman show. Marge replies that she is not worried; she is the woman her family needs most.
