The Bogey Man is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #63.
Synopsis[edit]
- "After hooligans ruin his day of golfing, Mr. Burns decides to make his own golf course on the Springfield Nature Preserve."
Plot[edit]
Mr. Burns and Smithers are pelted by golf balls hit by the bullies, forcing them to run. Burns wants to kill the bullies, but is told by Smithers that he's not allowed to do so. Since golf is now ruined for him, Burns tries to find another hobby to do, trying basketball, owning a hockey team, and finally virtual reality. When these fail to grip him, Burns decides to build his own golf course on the Springfield Nature Preserve. At the Nature Preserve, Lisa's Li'l Chickadee troupe are visiting and learning about the pink-beaked chickadee, the mascot of the group.
A week later, plans for making the golf course are moving on and Kent Brockman reports that the Springfield Environmental Review Board gave it the go ahead, after being bribed by Burns. Lisa calls an emergency Li'l Chickadee meeting and a protest forms at the Nature Preserve to try and stop Burns from destroying it. Burns arrives at the scene and gets ready to unleash hungry dogs on the protesters until he realizes that they're led by Li'l Chickadee. Burns calls off the attack and retreats. That night, Burns reveals to Smithers that he is a Chickadee, or was when they were previously known as The legion of the Hooded Falcon. As such, he wasn't allowed to break the Chickadee Code which states that if two Chickadees disagree, the matter must be settled by a "Battle of Badges".
The Battle of Badges, which is a competition to see which member can earn the most badges in a single day, starts. Lisa and Bart and Burns and Smithers compete and eventually end up tying. This leads to "The Night of Terror" happening, where both pairs must stay in the forest with nothing but a tent and whoever does not scream is the winner. That night, both pairs set up their tents. Both Bart and Smithers plan on releasing live snakes on their opponent, but the pink-beaked chickadee ends up carrying both snakes off. The next morning, a loud noise wakes up Burns and Smithers and they scream. They find out that it was from the loggers who were planning on cutting down the forest despite the competition. However, with Burns and Smithers screaming, Lisa ends up winning and the Nature Preserve is saved. Later, Mr. Burns plays another virtual reality simulation, this time of him cutting down the bullies with a gatling gun.
