Polybius is an arcade game, seen in Captain Blip's Zapateria at Springfield Mall.

History[edit]

Polybius is an arcade game seen at Captain Blip's Zapateria. The game is old and very outdated, just like all the other games in the arcade. The game has only one button and on the front of the game it says "Property of U.S. Government."

Behind the Laughter[edit]

The game is a reference to an urban legend, claiming the existence of an arcade game titled Polybius that would cause players to suffer from amnesia, insomnia, horrific nightmares, and other problems, and was supposedly filled with subliminal messages. The game was said to have been distributed in very limited quantities to only a few arcades, coincidently, located in Portland, Oregon. In some versions of the myth, the game is said to have been created by the U.S. Government which is why "Property of U.S. Government" is printed on the front of the machine.
