History[edit]
Smithers wrote the Malibu Stacy musical and got the production booked into the Albuquerque Theater. When he asked Mr. Burns for time off to be in the play and "make [his] dream come true". Burns granted the request, even though he made fun of Smithers for making a musical about a doll. In due time, the musical opened in the Albuquerque Theater. In the scene from the musical that was shown, Smithers and the actress playing Stacy were on a stage filled with life-sized Mailbu Stacy accessories. Seated on the hood of Stacy's Corvette, they sang the song "Sold Separately" as a duet.
Most of the audience seemed to enjoy the play, but when the song was finished, one bored-looking man gave his wife a dirty look and said, "This is better than a movie—Why?"[1]
Smithers had a poster for Malibu Stacy: The Musical in his office.[2]
