Charlene is what Homer named Bart's putter.

History[edit]

After Homer forced Bart to participate in the miniature golf tournament, he told him to name the putter. Bart chose 'Mr. Putter', but Homer told him to give it a girl's name, Bart again chose 'Mom'. Homer finally said its name is 'Charlene', because it just is, that's why.

Behind the Laughter[edit]

"Charlene", it is a reference to a scene in Full Metal Jacket where Marines in basic training are ordered to give their rifles female names. Leonard Lawrence names his "Charlene".
