Cultural references
- The story name is a reference to Around the World in Eighty Days.
- The scene with the freight train hitting Scratchy's car that fell onto the tracks, and then the second locomotive disconnecting from the first, jumping the tracks and going after Scratchy is a reference to the 1993 film The Fugitive.
