After editing an article the other day, Melissa Burlingame, I realised that perhaps we need a "First mentioned" value for Template:Character. Obviously, for people that appear, then are mentioned after, this would be useless, but for people that are mentioned first, before even appearing (or appearing at all), it seems a perfect idea. How does everyone else feel?
