The Dating Game is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #47.
Synopsis[edit]
- "Langdon Alger asks Lisa to go with him to the dance after he and Janey had a fight. However, Bart thinks that his intentions are less than noble."
Plot[edit]
At school, Langdon Alger asks Lisa if she wants to go to the Spring Fling with him. Lisa says yes and Sherri and Terri discuss this as Langdon had been dating Janey, but apparently they had a fight. Bart tells Lisa that he doesn't care that Langdon asked her to the dance but then thinks that something fishy is happening as Langdon had never paid attention to Lisa before. Bart then decides to start pulling pranks on Langdon, including tying his shoelaces together to trip him up, and putting fake snakes in his locker. Meanwhile, Janey watches Langdon and Lisa together and gets more and more annoyed. Bart then realizes that Langdon is trying to make Lisa jealous.
The next day, Bart tells Lisa what he realized, but Lisa doesn't agree with him until he sees Langdon flirting with Janey again. Lisa tells Langdon that she won't go to the dance with him and Langdon immediately asks Janey out instead. That night, Lisa is in her room, upset, and decides that she's not going to the Spring Fling after all. Marge tries to convince Lisa to go by herself anyway and then Bart later convinces her to go anyway as he says that he's also going on his own. He then tells Lisa to not let Langdon win and to go and have fun without him. When Lisa arrives at the school, she starts to have second thoughts until the band performing reveals that their saxophone player isn't going to make it. Lisa then volunteers to play saxophone for the band and everyone loves her playing. When Langdon starts complimenting Lisa, Janey dumps the bowl of punch over him.
