The Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a multiprogram science and technology laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

History[edit]

As part of the Manhattan Project during World War II, Oak Ridge became the birthplace of the atomic bomb.

In order to get Bart home after he and his friends were stuck in Knoxville and working for a courier service, Lisa notes Knoxville is near Oak Ridge so Homer decided to order a new command console for Homer's work station. Homer called up the facility and asked the technician to send them a new console. The technician was confused because his computer showed that Homer's console was in working order, until Homer dumped soda all over it, causing the technician to panic. He quickly sent Homer a replacement, allowing Bart and his friends to finally get home.
