Trivia[edit]

  • Note the shoebox in the back of the stroller.
The location appears to be Downtown Springfield rather than someplace like Springfield Mall. When Marge and Maggie leave the shoe store, they are outdoors and on a concrete sidewalk.
  • Because the story is wordless, it can be hard to tell whether Marge actually buys any shoes. A close look at the details, however, shows that she does indeed buy a pair of shoes:
    • In the first panel, Marge is wearing one shoe of a pair of low-heeled orange shoes. This is the style she's usually seen wearing, so those are probably her own shoes, and apparently she's put them back on after looking at several other pairs.
    • When Marge leaves the store, she's wearing the orange shoes. However, there is a shoebox in a carrying pouch on the back of Maggie's stroller.
    • Most likely, what happened is that Marge wore the orange shoes into the store, bought a different pair, and then packed that pair home in the box, rather than wear brand-new shoes to walk home.
    • Alternatively, she might have worn a different pair of shoes into the store, bought the orange pair, and then decided to go ahead and wear the new shoes for the walk home while packing the old ones in the box.
    • Either way, the presence of the shoebox in the stroller's carrying pouch when Marge leaves the store indicates that she bought a pair of shoes.

Continuity[edit]

Maggie's selective taste in pacifiers is also seen in the comic story Madison Avenue Maggie.
