History[edit]
Kwyjibo is a word made up by Bart during a game of Scrabble with his family. In the episode "Bart the Genius," Bart puts "kwyjibo" on the board, scoring 116 points (22 points, plus Triple Word Score, plus 50 points for using all seven of his letters). When Homer demands that Bart say what a kwyjibo is, Bart replies, "A big, dumb, balding North American ape... with no chin." Marge adds in, "...and a short temper." At this point, Homer chases Bart away, causing him to exclaim, "Uh oh! Kwyjibo on the loose!"
Trivia[edit]
- Kwyjibo is an idiom that has been used as the name of the Melissa Computer Virus.
- Kwyjibo is a word used in The Simpsons Scrabble.
- Bart's claimed score was incorrect, in fact being too low. The letters for "kwyjibo" in Scrabble are worth 26 points, plus 8 since the only way to reach a triple word score box on the board also would require getting a double letter score on the "j". This totals to 34, which is then tripled to 102; finally the 50-point bonus for using all seven letters gives a final score of 152. Original content here. (In fact, his total score for that turn would have been 157, as he also played the word "of" which is worth 5 points.)
- In a real Scrabble board, all triple word scores are located at the edges and corners of the board. Bart did not place any letters there.
- There is a mine in Canada named the Kwyjibo mine.
