Cultural references
- The heavily guarded wall splitting the town into two is a reference to the Berlin Wall.
- Homer's line "How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?", is a reference to a line from the song Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2 from Pink Floyd's album, The Wall.
Trivia
- The plot is similar to the episode "A Tale of Two Springfields", including one side of Springfield containing all the richer and snobbier people, one side losing their water supply, and a wall splitting two sides of the town. The episode aired in November 2000, three months after this comic was released.
