The Bogey Man is a comic story in Simpsons Comics #63. It was released in October 2001.

Plot

Mr. Burns wants to build a golf course in the Springfield Natural Preserve. The Springfield Environmental Review Board does not protest the destruction of the protected forest due to bribes from Burns. Lisa and a scout group she is a part of called the Li'l Chickadees protests the plans. Although Mr. Burns is about to release the hounds on them, he retreats and later reveals to Smithers that he himself is a member of the Chickadees, although in his youth the group was called The Legion of the Hooded Falcon and the focus was on killing and skinning. If he had released the hounds he would have broken the Chickadee Code.

Burns and Lisa can only solve the dispute with a "Battle of the Badges", where the person who earns the most badges in a single day wins. The battle ends in a tie so the final task is "The Night of Terror" where the two competitors must spend a night in the darkest woods and the one who does not scream is the winner. During the night, both parties release a snake by the other's tent but they are both eaten by a chickadee bird. The next morning, Mr. Burns and Smithers scream after hearing noises, revealed to be loggers, as Burns was planning to cut down the forest anyway. Burns gives up and instead settles on virtual golf, invented by Professor Frink.
