Style Guide: Guest stars

The following is a style guide on how to create a high quality guest star page, and is part of our Manual of Style.

Aims

This style guide aims to help you write articles on all The Simpsons guest stars.

Structure of an article

Pre-empting all else, if the guest star voiced themselves or has appeared on the show (i.e. they have a character page), {{Gstarnav}} should be placed at the top.

Infobox

All guest stars articles must have this infobox:

{{Guest Star
|Name = Name
|image = Image
|Gender = Male or Female
|Birth = |birthdate= If full date, and still alive, use <code>{{birthdate|year|month|day}}</code>
|Death = If full birth and death date, use <code>{{deathdate|death year|month|day|birth year|month|date}}</code>
|Nationality = Nationality
|Claim to Fame = What they are known for
|Character = Character(s)
|Appearance = First appearance
}}

Information

Our guest star articles follow a strict format. The paragraph should start with their full name, followed by their birth date, and if necessary death date, in brackets. Then their nationality and profession is mentioned. Afterwards mention their appearances on the show, and end with any additional information, for example their brother also appeared on the show.

A good example can be seen below:

Alexander Rae "Alec" Baldwin III (born April 3, 1958) is an American actor. He voiced himself in the season 10 episode "When You Dish Upon a Star" and Caleb Thorn in the season 17 episode "Bonfire of the Manatees". He is the ex-husband of Kim Basinger.

Navboxes and categories

Each season has it's own guest star navbox and all relevant ones should be added. Use {{Season X Guest Stars}}, where "X" is the season.

Every guest star should have their nationality template, for example Category:American guest stars. Other categories that may be relevant are Category:Recurring guest stars and Category:Self-voicing guest stars

External links

All guest star member should have an IMDB page, linkable through {{IMDB|link}}, where link is everything past "http:www.imdb.com/". Most have a Wikipedia pages, which is applied through {{Wikipedialink}}. Note that no extra info is needed provided Wikipedia's page share's the same title as ours. Other acceptable links include the person's website and their Twitter page.

Groups

  • If the main significance of their appearance on the show is as a group rather than as individuals, feel free to make character and guest star articles for the group rather than for each individual member.
  • Title the articles as [[<group name>]] for the real-life group, and [[<group name> (characters)]] for the group's character article. For example: The Ramones and The Ramones (characters).
  • For bands, use the "Band" infobox for both the character and guest star articles. For pictures, use real-life photos and episode screenshots as appropriate.

Other

  • Every guest stars's talk page should have {{Talkheader}} followed by {{Article Project Guest Stars}}.
  • Make sure that the characters and guest stars are linked to appropriately.
