Die Simpsons
Die Simpsons is the German dub of "The Simpsons". It is currently on the twenty-first season.
Translation
Episodes are uncut and dubbed, with writing and singing subtitled. However more recently signposts and other visuals are now translated via voice over. In general the language is harsher with more swearing, however early seasons were "toned down" to make them more child friendly.
Bart's blackboard gag involves Bart reading a translation of the gag then laughs when the bell rings, before continuing as normal.
Catchphrase | French version | Translation |
---|---|---|
"D'oh!" | "Nein!" | "No!" |
"Butt" | "Arsch" | "Ass" |
"Why you little..." | "Du mieser Kleiner..." | "You miserable little..." |
"Eat my shorts!" | "Friss meine shorts!" | |
"Excellent!" | "Ausgezeichnet!" |
However the dub has experienced many mistakes. In most cases this is due to the translator not being familiar with certain aspects of American pop culture and the meaning of some phrases. Political jokes are also hard to understand due to the fact not many German's are familiar with US politics. However it should be noted these problems are experienced in many dubs.
Broadcasters
ProSieben broadcast Die Simpsons in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is also shown on ORF1 in Austria and SF 2 in Switzerland. Before ProSieben, the show was originally on public broadcaster ZDF before moving to Teleclub then Premiere, both of which are pay-TV channels.
