The Witness Relocation Program is a program that provides protection and relocation assistance to witnesses and their families who are involved in criminal cases.

History

After Bart started receiving death threats from his nemesis Sideshow Bob, the Simpsons entered the Witness Relocation Program. They were given a convertible, their surname was changed to Thompson, and they were relocated to Terror Lake on a houseboat docked at a pier in the lake. However, Sideshow Bob was hiding under their convertible. Once installed in their new home, Bob sneaked onboard the family's houseboat and cut the line with a machete, causing the boat to float off into the swamp. After tying up the rest of the family, he went to murder Bart in his room. When the boat returned to the jurisdiction of the Springfield Police, Bob raised his machete, but before he could finish Bart off, the boat hit a rock, and the jolt knocked them away from each other. Fortunately, the police were nearby and arrested Bob. After Bob was sent back to jail, the Simpsons returned to Evergreen Terrace.
