Cultural references

  • Similar to the stories "Let's See It Again! The Origin of Radioactive Man" and "The Little Boy with the Big Dream" in this issue, this story is also a parody of Steve Ditko's work for Captain Atom and Charlton.
  • Roargo is a parody of Gorgo, and Kinga is a parody of Konga. Both were monsters from 1961 movies that Charlton Comics had the rights to make comics for, and subsequently Steve Ditko worked the art on their respective comics.
  • I.M. Redd's origin story is similar to that of Doctor Strange from Marvel Comics, a character that Ditko created.
  • Redd and Ginnie's remarks about the hand gestures they make is a reference to how Ditko often drew particular hand gestures for characters in his stories, Doctor Strange being an major example.
