Cultural references
- The main plot is a reference to the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the film adaptation Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
- The cover that appears on Simpsons Comics #41 is a parody of the film's theatrical release poster.
- The Itchy and Scratchy cartoon Choco-Pussy or Dip and Let Die is a reference to the James Bond films Octopussy and Live and Let Die.
- The flying monkeys released by Sideshow Bob are a reference to the book and film The Wizard of Oz.
- The log flume ride in the factory is a reference to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at the Disneyland parks. During one panel showing the tour group's raft going down a drop, they pass by a film crew filming Kiera Knightly, which is a further reference to the movie based on the ride.
