Many fans have also noted that the episode also pays homage to Pulp Fiction by Quentin Terentino, mimicking the style of disjointed stories all coming together to form one plot, and more obviously, the discussion of McDonald's Restaurants and the scene in Melvin's Pawn Shop ("When Zed gets here..."). The episode also sparked the idea amongst the staff of a spin-off TV series Tales from Springfield, focusing on the town rather than the Simpsons family.
