Love Potion Numbs Her Mind is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #165.
Plot[edit]
Marge is painting a picture of Homer's underwear when Homer yells for help. Marge is busy, but after a while she goes to Homer, but she is too late. Homer has completed the elusive fifth position in the hammock, and he wanted her to take a picture of it for Hammock World Monthly. Marge tells Homer that she was busy painting, and the two begin to fight. Marge throws her painting in the garbage but Bart and Lisa pick it up when a business man comes along and buys the painting from them for $500. Lisa doesn't want to sell the painting, but Bart persuades her to do it. Lisa wants to spend the money on Marge. Bart and Lisa are watching TV when they see a commercial for a romantic hotel which also has artistic self-expression classes for ladies and a well-stocked sports bar for men. Bart and Lisa book one weekend at the hotel for Marge and Homer and get them to think they won the visit, and arrange for Grampa to babysit.
They check into the hotel and Marge enrolls in the artistic self-expression class, and she gets compliments from the teacher, Nick Aphrodite, but when Homer comes and starts to talk about the latest issue of Hammock World Monthly, Marge becomes irritated and leaves the class. Homer feels bad about hurting Marge, and goes out and meets Professor Frink who sells him his new love potion, Romancetrex-9, which creates feelings of understanding and respect. Homer goes to Marge after he drops a few drops of the love potion into her tea. After he sees Donut Man handing out free donuts, he leaves Marge and throws her down the stairs.
Marge is picked up by Aphrodite and falls in love with him. Homer goes to the place where Marge was and discovers that Marge is not there, and realizes that she fell in love with the first person she saw. Homer gets a tip to search after her in the room and he finds her there. Marge is packing up, because Aphrodite has arranged a better place just for her. Homer then asks Marge if she saw Nick after she drank the tea and she says that he rescued her after she fell down the stairs. Homer goes home to his kids, and as usual he realizes he has messed up when he sees Grampa watching them. Homer tells his family what happened and Grampa tells him that he must win her back in a few days. Marge is painting Aphrodite in his room. He asks Marge to stay and move in with him but she hesitates. Homer then comes and tells Marge and Aphrodite about the love potion he gave her. Homer gives Marge a portion of the love drink and asks her to drink it when she views the family photo album and decide whether to come back home, or look at Nick and live a full life. Afterwards, Homer leaves the hotel.
Nick shows her the painting that he bought from Bart and Lisa and tells her if she stays, she can be as good as this painter. Marge tells Nick that it is her painting. He then throws the photo album out the window and asks Marge to drink the potion. Marge refuses and looks out of the window, where she sees Homer with some rats. Nick then forces Marge to drink the love potion when he sees her. Homer is back in the hammock and Marge takes a picture of him, and says that after she drank the potion the second time, all she wanted was to see her husband, and Nick saw the painting she had made: a painting of Homer's underpants. Lisa then asks what will happen to her painting career and her single-woman show, to which Marge replies that she is not worried; she is the woman her family needs most.
