It seems that the game is very liberal and unrestricting in terms of what race and class your character can be, as there are also PCs that are the jobs of regular towns folk as well as non-humanoid creatures such as animals, giant animals, and dragons as playable races. Aside from choosing their race, sex, and class, characters can also customize their characters hair, shoes, bodytype, face, clothes and even weapons.
