Cultural references
- Toucan Sam, Trix, Cap'n Crunch and Count Chocula are all featured on Bart's "Cereal Killer" game; they are, respectively, the mascots for Fruit Loops, Trix, Cap'n Crunch and Count Chocula breakfast cereals.
- The non-linear plot showing various points in Homer and Marge's relationship is very similar to the 1967 film Two for the Road, starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney.
- During the limbo scene, the song "Limbo Rock" by Chubby Checker can be heard in the background, along with Homer singing it.
- This episode shows that Homer used to like Ned Flanders. It also explains why he hates him, after putting Homer and Marge in separate rooms. ("I can't believe I have to say this, but stupid Flanders!")
Goofs
- Alberto's blue shirt changes from blue to tan when he's thanking Marge.
